NIGHT OF CLOCKS on DVD!

This is good news to cheer: the last film Jean Rollin is now available on DVD in France (Region 2 PAL )! In addition to film a good transfer, Included are trailers for various films of Rollin and a 15-minute interview with the director, always interesting and enthusiastic while discussing a bit of everything.

From what I've seen, the DVD is not yet online at the big sellers (or Amazon.fr Fnac.com). Maybe is it an independent output or limited edition, but it can be found easily on the publisher's site in question: http://www.lcj-editions.com (or more Specifically here). It is good to see a nice pocket for one of his films, other than visual company that tries Redemption to resume with the recent re-editions.

few days ago, I received my copy, which arrived at high speed (less than three days between ordering and receiving in France in Quebec) and I found myself with a new surprise with the DVD in hand: we cited one of my comments about the film on the cover (it comes from here)! Many will say that there is nothing exceptional about that, but for my part, I am very honored thing. Jean Rollin is one of the filmmakers I admire greatly and with whom I could talk some years ago. Of the meeting was already a great moment, then the opportunity spend some time with him is unforgettable. His works touch me here and especially one of my reviews can be found there on the cover of the wonderful film that is NIGHT OF CLOCKS . Superb!

Despite a slight mistake in the address of the site, my enthusiasm remains and I am blessed by this surprise. Besides, it's still funny as my great friend Frederick had also had the chance to exit the North American THE BRIDE OF DRACULA . Fun.

The good news continues: Rollin has released a new book recently BALL CLOWN among E-called . A few weeks later, I learned that Rollin has been running a short film of 52 minutes, THE MASK OF MEDUSA , working for the first time in HD. We can now enjoy a little making-of that here:

Making Of Jean Rollin "The Mask of Medusa" After the first

in Toulouse it was not so long ago he announces that he plans to shoot additional footage to make a feature film! Wonderful! He said everywhere that NIGHT OF CLOCKS would be his last film, but that's the fighter who returns with a new project for our pleasure. It only remains to wait to sink once again into his dream world ...

Moreover, for those interested who do not know and can play DVD PAL Xploited Cinema special offers for some time on the beautiful limited editions of the company again (see here ) for $ 20 each! These editions are beautiful and what price they are irresistible! See ...

What Is The White Stuff Around My Clitoris ?

Death of Paul Naschy ...

I was struck by a few days ago a new sad: Jacinto Molina (aka Paul Naschy ) died on the night of November 30 last. Pancreatic cancer killed him. I had no idea his battle with the disease that began last year, as projects and appearances accumulated for him lately, with his strong enthusiasm for each of them, suggesting good shape.

Leaving behind him a very original work, macabre, gothic, often equipped with werewolves and bloody historical figures, his singular vision emanated always a dreamlike atmosphere tasty little thing shared by his peers. It was definitely the eternal dreamer who clung ever made despite overwhelming odds. Inveterate admirer of classic monsters of Universal , Naschy has not only worked in the cinema of horror as his long filmography shows, but now this part easily reveals his enthusiasm for the genre films.

I watch just a few months ago the magnificent package released by BCI / Eclipse (The Paul Naschy Collection ) including five very different films in his filmography, leaving aside his adventures as a lycanthrope. Everyone has a special charm: the fantastic English surprising images where the strange and the macabre dominate and where discoveries are unique and numerous. My favorite of this batch is HUMAN BEASTS (1985) (aka El carnaval de las bestias ), a film and the dreary weather with a curious scenario very dark and surprising that I highly recommend. His most famous character remains obviously Waldemar Daninsky a lycanthrope to finding a cure for his curse that will last for ten films where the title of his autobiography, "Memoirs of a Wolfman .

To date, Naschy's films other than fantastic practice remains unknown leaving a whole part of his career despite his recent loss experience; small consolation for morale after such further steep. I had the chance to meet the man a few years ago at the Fantasia festival and I have very fond memories of this being warm, friendly and generous, braving the early hours of the night to meet each of its fans. A memorable moment as he makes his films always good to rediscover.

Goodbye Jacinto Molina, and thank you for your fantastic cinema.

How Do You Create A Plastic Bottle Cap Bracelet?

Jess Franco, Robert De Nesle .... and Pete Tombs?

This blog often sleeps at the same times each year. Whether by my sudden lack of enthusiasm, lack of time daily or too many projects designed at the same time which, given the second reason, probably never will be completed or if not in many moons ... But then, I always come back to life a little when I find the time or at different events causing excessive enthusiasm.

A recent news story sparked such enthusiasm and it owes it to Pete Tombs and Andy Starke Mondo Macabro of , DVD label out of the ordinary that still manages to find attractive securities. This time it's an event. We had expected more.

I wrote some time ago about the white night dedicated to Jess Franco at the Cinémathèque québécoise ( here) which proposed a new version on the market video of the film THE OBSCENE MIRROR (See more here ) presented in glorious 35mm. It was a discovery under several points ... Well now this film is part of the productions of French Film Desk of Robert De Nesle for which the distribution was not available on the market for DVD because of rights and very little on the VHS market (let alone Version respected). All productions of Nesle incubation it had the same fate and remains a problem ...

We continued to hope in vain for years that the securities would fall from the sky at one time or another. Then, last weekend, Tombs announced after three years of the negotiations came in 2010 Franco 70 - The De Nesle Years Vol. 1-3. No titles to sink your teeth yet, but WOW! What a surprise! It's time to party regardless of the titles. Speculation begins ...

Two days ago, Mondo Macabro confirmed the titles of these three volumes: LORNA THE EXORCIST (one of my favorites), THE DIARY OF a nymphomaniac and COUNTESS PERVERSE (where j 'had even mounted a DVD with the existing version most faithful to the wishes of Franco, but far from original).

It is not surprising, however, this selection all three are favorites of Pete Tombs and more. Mondo Macabro DVD release is hoped that these will be the beginning of a long list of titles, which multiplies even more enthusiasm. Especially as done by them, we can expect a quality treatment done with great respect. Finally!

If all goes well, the first volume will point the nose in May. It's still far, but it's nothing compared to waiting for it before with the despair of not perhaps never see movies in a user friendly version, let alone a version without censorship.

That day is coming ....

Polyps Seen On Mri Brain

Fantasia 2009 - Day 21 (end)

A short little amusing to start the evening: THE HIDDEN LIFE OF THE OWL BURROWING (2008) by Mike Roush . Mixture of live action and animation, we find ourselves right in the mockumentary funny story for this charming and very smart owl. The timing humor is exquisite and it is left with a smile well anchored.

TRICK 'R TREAT (2008) by Michael Dougherty .

then immersed in the pleasures of time on Halloween with this delightful anthology film and taking, always remaining as entertaining. I did not expect to like much, but we come here in the middle of the festivities, conducted with an obvious love of the feast of the dead. A very successful innovation for the movie skits where, for once, we do not find a story to start all the others, but the characters all connected and introduced at the outset. This technique works beautifully, never breaking the rhythm is a fresh start with characters unknown. We are heading toward the familiar rather deepening all the events taking place during this eventful Halloween night. Everyone has a preference for the various Stories where humor, creativity and are scared to go but now they are all charming. The uniformity and control of project surprises and never tires while in transit, unless you want to hide his pleasure. Contesting a very pleasant to taste October 31, mixing myths, monsters and contagious happiness.

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009) to Quentin Tarantino .

Well here we are: the surprise closing film of this year and not a small one. Intensive security to the projection is presented with the search of each person before entering the room, searching electronic equipment, removing the cell (a method that should be in order, hehe) and the whole lot like it. We congratulate the team of Fantasia to win time by having toured the queue before the time for such phones. This circus is completely understandable given the intense hacking, but by waiting through all that, you realize that unfortunately the situation where we have reached is very sad, metal detector in support, even more severe than a show of music. There are also bouncers on the side of the rows in the room, standing for the entire duration Film introducing the latest security level. Oh la la, what a great change we have ...

Let these thoughts with the cell and, after the awards ceremony of the festival and an enthusiastic presentation of Eli Roth, the lights fall to make way for new film by Quentin Tarantino , like every highly anticipated new album . A remake is announced by Tarantino, but we expect more of a complete reinvention despite the trailer leaving the ice, it does not capture the mood and with the limits of the pompous, we fear the worst. The verdict after this projection: fantastic!

I think that this is my favorite director. We'll see over time, but now, it comes out impressed. I'm not a big fan of Tarantino finished, still enjoying his good and bad, and that before this, my favorite was the very complete and very underestimated JACKIE BROWN . Here we come with a work accomplished, mature, accurate and devilishly effective. Tarantino forces are put forward and serve the scenario beautifully. His dialogues are sometimes criticized as too long or too referential, slowing the narrative just for fun in some of his films (including his DEATH PROOF , victim Critics of this kind, with good reason), but not this time. All serve the story and having a Nazi agent talking to achieve their purposes and whether you're a traitor, nothing more nervous and brilliance to continue dialogues with superbly constructed, reinforced by a direction of actors and copy staged intensive and controlled.

Being a Tarantino, music has always been a big part at times, but here we do not forget the terrible efficiency of silence where the tension is palpable and that's good. The incredibly precise and tight editing is also an element of size in favor film at a point where I was surprised at the appearance of the final credits so the experience takes place rapidly, despite its 152 minutes and an hour later.

The film is presented in several chapters, a technique well used, never tires while pushing the events from chapter to chapter where many characters are gathered for the grand final breathtaking. Through this story of war, you feel a love of cinema that quickly became contagious, accentuated by the almost constant presence of posters or craftsmen of this art in the film.

One point to be widely decried upon its release: the film is half to three quarters or otherwise subtitled! He had the balls to do that with today's market, particularly in the United States. If a popular filmmaker could create a work of the kind that would force the stodgy subtitle to have a try, it's Tarantino. We wish success. The film is in German, French and English, I did not know any details such as the presence of Melanie Laurent , delicious in one of the leading roles. Not to mention Brad Pitt impressive jaw that brings a humorous tasty (flirting with caricature in the trailer, but wait for the finished project before judging). Of course, the extraordinary performance Christoph Waltz be emphasized: it is simply amazing.

Surprises All in all, with a recovery period to salivate for its majestic scenery, especially at its end. Really, a surprisingly successful and enjoyable from Tarantino. I already want to see him again ...

------------------------------------------

Well here is the end of Fantasia 2009, a busy year. We finally found the nights full and provided better food, but the discoveries will be missed soon. As in previous years, here's my ballot in the price of the public to close the table:

Best Asian Film: BREATHLESS of Yang Ik-june .

Creativect4780 Driver Win 7

Fantasia 2009 - Day 20

ELSE (2007) of Thibault Emin .

It starts the day with a very good short film and photography and worked at the sinister atmosphere releasing a heavy side and intriguing in this post-apocalyptic landscape intimate. It focuses on a couple engages in the development of a typical virus that devastated world where the transformation is far from pleasant. One of my favorite short of the festival.

LEFT BANK (2008) by Pieter Van Hees .

first feature film for Pieter Van Hees, who had surprised her crazy BLACK XXX-MAS in the past and the first impression is that of a mature filmmaker ever since. The climate introduces a haunting mystery sustained during the entire film with Eline Kuppens whose playing is impressive. It falls into the grim and the various conspiracies but despite an inventive denouement and interesting, the film fails to captivate completely, remaining a mere curiosity and effective moments after a bit fuzzy ideas and agreed.

NEIGHBOR (2009) by Robert Masciantonio .

is continued with this horrible piece arrives empty and ridiculous that tests the patience of the viewer, not by the presence of gore "daring" and shocking, but rather by the whole to be invalid causing the spread of bearings eyes endless. America Olivo , silly protagonist, is breathtaking in its posturing painfully exaggerated, convinced of his game yet inexistent and void, a lack of charisma in support to add to the annoyance of the show stupid. It is clear that the idea of a beauty well pimpée a serial killer was the first excitement, but even at its most basic, it falls flat. In addition to acting skills leave much to be desired (only Lauren Rooney manages to inject a bit of sympathy), the staging does nothing to address the whole. There is even a moment of reverie while stretching wanting "fun" and destabilizing, but poorly conducted successfully added the grotesque confusion more than anything else. Otherwise, yes we can say that the gore effects are nice and efficient, but to endure such a film for so little juvenile buffoonery constitutes torture. Damage, with Q & A after the film with much of the friendly team, we practice it wants to have nothing good to say the project, but at least finish the evening trade on a better note ... Ouch!

Next time: the grand finale with TRICK 'R TREAT and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS !

How To Make Floating Boats That Can Hold Pennys

Fantasia 2009 - Day 19

BEST WORST MOVIE (2009), Michael Stephenson .

Having dropped the projection TROLL 2, I had to at least go take a look at this curious documentary, produced by the youngster's cult film, Michael Stephenson . We show that TROLL 2 is primarily a shameful remembrance for members of the cast who, with time and development of film in the cult movie, rediscovering all in a festive fun, making memories less shameful that at commencement. A special bond is formed between the film in question, the fans and players now acclaimed by those fans, all leads recognition of this fun turnip forgotten by many of its participants. Through this documentary, we follow the path George Hardy (the father in the film) now dentist, tinged with a good nature and a contagious joie de vivre, which in turn discovers the cult behind TROLL 2 and jumping in with both feet at the chance to play in turning the spotlight .

Addressing several themes with this starting point, BEST WORST MOVIE reveals a human and touching portrait by different perspectives (including the less joyful Claudio Fragasso , director always proud of his work), up to the inevitable end and the negative of this whole charade. The film works largely through Hardy, engaging and charismatic bon vivant always smiling, ready to share his experiences with anyone who will listen. A beautiful exploration of the world of cult film, its participants and its fans, fanatics or not, without having to know TROLL 2 on the fingertips.

Before the next main program Glass Eye Pix , we present THE VIEWER (2009) by Graham Reznick , experimenting with film format 3d traditional (with red and blue glasses). A successful film with 3D effects very effective, forcing the admiration many times. We are the subject of a test in several steps, of course, increase the level of 3d destabilizing. These particular effects, we learn the operation during Q & A with the director who tells us have experimented with the format standards in playing with the distances between the cameras. Well, a good result here is that impressive.

I SELL THE DEAD (2008) by Glenn McQuaid .

anthology film early, a tribute to the cinema Hammer and Amicus , in addition to the classic Universal , we are left with the first feature film by Glenn McQuaid following his short THE RESURRECTION APPRENTICE ( 2005). It continues the adventure with the characters of Willie Grimes played by the talented Larry Fessenden (you know me great admirer), also a producer, and his apprentice Arthur Blake (Dominic Monaghan ) by robber of corpses. Many of their adventures are told in flashbacks while Blake is waiting patiently for his killing. Despite some lengths, the look and humorous we earn with very funny moments where the humor works perfectly, administering well-deserved laughs. Some stories work better than others but all have a charm that amuses the lugubrious pleasure visible performers and the staging in this direction. A very pleasant entertainment that demonstrates the level of quality and diversity of Glass Eye Pix which accumulates interesting projects.

Next time: LEFT BANK and NEIGHBOR.

Red Wagon Birthday Cake Ideas

Fantasia 2009 - Day 18

Sorry for updates on delays, different impediments beasts show up with the weeks charged. Despite the delay, the final days of the festival will arrive in the coming days.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (2009) of Ti West .

Wow! Ti West has a long way since THE ROOST which had greatly displeased. We meet here in a time capsule highly successful, giving the impression of having discovered a gem out of the early 80s. For once, all works perfectly without the references to which we are used by all films tempting to return to the aesthetics of these years. The pace is completely different from what is being proposed today, focusing on the atmosphere with a simplistic scenario, but well built, leaving room for creativity in staging. The actors are all in the tone with a particular mention to Jocelin Donahue which is superb in its charming simplicity, carrying the film on his shoulders without problem. Indeed, all that takes place mostly in house with the good girl left alone trying to relieve boredom and anxiety by the use of unusual babysitter. Tom Noonan is also well creepy and sympathetic in his few scenes, suggesting a more sinister side behind his charm. The generic opening and ending are equally well by their smile look vintage beautifully done. A great way to fall into the nostalgia of the golden age horror cinema, all with respect, talent and inventiveness.

BREATHLESS (2008) Yang Ik-june . What

slap in the face! We'll say good, but now I was not expecting much. A masterful achievement Yang Ik-june as writer, producer, director and lead actor, at the same time exorcising his demons more by the film punch accomplished. The Rage and the intensity of the footage is palpable and felt fabulously and the work in question shows brutally vicious circle of violence surrounding the daily, sometimes heartbreaking by its realistic portrayal where the loophole is a rarity almost nonexistent . An unforgettable work highly recommended to discover as soon as possible. One of the jewels of the festival.

Next time: BEST WORST MOVIE and I SELL THE DEAD .

Shiny Pokemon On Pokemon Deluge

Fantasia 2009 - Day 17

WITHOUT PURPOSE (2009), Steve Leonard & Caroline Labreche .

First Feature Film Collective Dead Cat Films we have followed over the years with their very funny short films, showing an uncommon talent. One finds all the elements that made them popular: intelligent humor and / or scatological, talent, a love of the medium and a contagious joy to discover what they are preparing us. The leap to feature films with the whole lot of problems this company makes is beautifully performed by the troupe, always enthusiastic and fun. A great success with very few resources, except that here, these are a few ways to cleverly used an original, funny and thoroughly charming smile.

ROUGH CUT (2008) by Jang Hun .

One of the Korean films I expected more selections in the festival and I am happy: we get slapped around with this mix of comedy, drama and action movie and more beating around the middle of cinema. It gradually explores roughly the different facets of fiction and reality, blurring the lines when you are too anchored in one or the other. A good script, staged at the height of fabulous performances and exciting action scenes, all with a lot of depth that is far from simple entertaining lightness. Must see.

EMBODIMENT OF EVIL (2008) of José Mojica Marins .

The return of Jose Mojica Marins film, besides being the final chapter of his trilogy which began there over 40 years! It does not appear here with a conclusion of a shameful mediocrity to Argento (ouch) but in the presence of a singular artist always as charismatic on the screen with her 72 years well counted. It was not idle either behind the camera, adopting a modern staging, a sinister look and a screenplay (co-written by Dennison Ramalho ) for the times. Hat (!) For the mythical character of Zé do Caixão (aka Coffin Joe ) of Sailors who loses none of its verve and creative course that overlooks the project. This is not an absolute masterpiece, but a work of honest, polite and well conducted, over the vast majority of what plagues the market today. Several sequences confusing Lockers are inventive and the atmosphere is cynical appointment. A good return for Marius.

Then, the projection of the execrable TROLL 2 is tempting despite the screenings over the years, but bof, I opt for school wise after a meeting with high-minded Sailors.

Next time: THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and BREATHLESS.

Something Will Gain Value In The Future

Fantasia 2009 - Day 16

MY DEAR ENEMY (2008) by Lee Yoon-ki .

An intimate drama where a very pleasant ex tries to recover money owed by his old flame. That will not be as easy as expected since it will draw money all day together. The result is a movie taking, beautifully controlled, actors in top form when the staging leaves them in first place. Charming, funny and has a magic atmosphere, it lends itself to the game and you come out of its own nostalgic games.

Before the next program, we are entitled to Mortified (2008) by Robert Nevitt , a short humorous and horrifying and funny short play where the cache is not so funny.

THE CHILDREN (2008) by Tom Shankland .

A second listen, first to the big screen, I admit I was less impressed this time. Perhaps the least successful atmosphere or simply fatigue attacked me at times? I'd bet on the latter. Anyway, there is no denying the incredible efficiency of this terrifying work. I clearly remember having received a blow to the film first listen, not expecting anything and then having to chase the chills. A captivating film that performs in an exemplary manner to sense the fear by children with innocent looks unpredictable. A beautiful scared that I recommend without hesitation.

And since this week with fatigue in the body of work, I opt to drop the representation of midnight Deadgirl despite my great desire to discover. Bah, next time ...

Next post: WITHOUT PURPOSE , ROUGH CUT and EMBODIMENT OF EVIL.
