Jean Rollin (1938-2010)
Jean Rollin's enthusiasm towards his work and received the recognition he quietly is undoubtedly what led him to continue so long despite the health, completing even a new movie in 2010 ( THE MASK THE JELLYFISH , his only film shot in HD) while providing a new project. Until the last moment, he continued ...
when he announced the release of NIGHT OF CLOCKS that this was his last film (you can read about this film here ), fewer opportunities to fall from the sky. This film touched me a lot, like most of his works, but now this particular film somehow announced his death and the rubble left behind by time. A film will if it is a concept already explored before (like in the new THE LAST BOOK in 2002, recently read) but never with so many allusions and even less in one of his films. Viewing size.
A dream came in 2007 when I got to spend several hours with Jean Rollin for a few days during his trip to Fantasia. Being shy and intimidated much vis-a vis such a meeting, I found myself with a warm man with many anecdotes with which it was a pleasure to share. Generous with his time, he granted an interview with my friend Frederick and myself without hesitation that this was a great time, adding to the shock of finding myself in his presence. Once everything is finished, we fill it back the same gift he had with him.
Jean Rollin has given me a lot through the years, something that will continue every time I dive into his work and his dream world, as much literary as cinematic, and it will remain so forever. Women-vampires out of the clocks will never be forgotten.
A long absence from the blog (a habit you will say, and probably rightly so) with multiple projects and muddles occupying free time few, as always, but despite this and the time spent I could not leave in silence an event which struck me a few days after my birthday last December: death of Jean Rollin .
For people knowing him, his health baby will for many more years of a troubled and I always dreaded the news. I am very grateful to my friend Simon who told me everything with tact and kindness in person during a rough day before the news from spreading on the web, having himself learned knowledge Rollin. When dealing with someone you admire greatly, we imagine it will always be there to continue his battle against overwhelming odds. The notion that it is always more difficult to assimilate.
